Plans

Automatically generated plans visualize network and infrastructure relationships in Docusnap365 – network view, topology, and more.

Introduction

In Docusnap365, plans serve as a graphical representation of complex IT structures. They provide an intuitive overview of networks, connections, routes, and infrastructure components. Plans are based on discovery results and generated automatically.

Types of Plans in Docusnap365

Routing Plan

The routing plan visualizes logical networks and their IP segment relationships. It shows IP networks, routers, gateways, and their connection paths.

  • Representation of IP segments and routing paths
  • Grouping by networks and logical relationships
  • Use cases: IP analysis, subnetting, firewall planning

Network Plan

The network plan displays end devices, connections, and logical groups – e.g., by segment, type, or custom definitions. It’s ideal for gaining a general overview of logical relationships.

  • Focus on logical device relationships
  • Flexible grouping and layout options
  • Customizable structure with toolbox and filter features

Topology Plan

The topology plan illustrates the physical network topology, including switches, ports, and their connections.

  • Visualization of physical port connections
  • Useful for switch documentation
  • Helpful during office relocations, redesigns, or troubleshooting

Features and Tools

  • Save and load plans (persistent visualizations)
  • Layout settings: spacing, edge distances, node naming
  • Toolbox: add and manage objects and groups
  • Plan details & metadata
  • Export to Visio (e.g., for handover or archiving)
  • Navigation and zooming using the overview panel

Example Use Cases

  • IT admin plans a network redesign → Routing plan provides an overview of IP segments and gateways
  • Network technician investigates a support issue → Topology plan shows switch-port assignments
  • Project manager wants to document which systems belong to which logical segment → Network plan grouped by IP range

Benefits

  • Automated visualization without manual diagramming
  • Multi-layered insights via logical, physical, and device-based views
  • Visio export for external communication
  • Filter and layout options for targeted display of complex environments
  • Part of the integrated Docusnap365 documentation
